From dream to reality..
Thank you for visiting
Brainwave's online home. Brainwave Computer Services was founded
in 1989 as a FREE bulletin board system, and has since grown into
Delmarva's premier online services company. Back in 1989, 2400bps
was state of the art, and our entire operation was run on a single
386 based server, with two incoming lines (busy signals were part
of life then).
Every month, we added more and more content, including news, weather,
online games, email, chat rooms, & discussion forums. By 1990,
we had joined the national Fidonet backbone, and doubled to four
lines. In 1992, we began carrying Usenet newsgroups (our first
step into today's Internet). And experimented with a graphical
user interface, instead of the primitive color text and ANSI Graphics
that we all had grown accustomed to. That did not go over well...
no wanted to use anything that resembled America On-Line, which
back then was $4.00/hr!.
By 1994, we realized the world was changing, and that a national
"internet" would be the next big thing, so our founder
took down the BBS, and got a real job to make the money to finance
the project (tough thing for a teenager to do!). In late 1994,
bwave.com was born, and early in 1995 we secured a dedicated (28.8k!)
connection. 1995/1996 were busy years, between going to school,
working a full-time (44-48hr.) job, and then staying up 'til 3
in the morning learning all about "the Internet" and
what it would take to become an "Internet Service Provider".
That dream finally became a reality in November of 1996, when
Brainwave first started offering dialup PPP connections. At that
time we had just a 768k frame relay circuit & 4 33.6k dialup
ports. Our "network" consisted of a Pentium 120 that
handled remote access & primary DNS, and a 5x86/133 that handled
mail, secondary DNS & all web pages (our news was ported to
another provider).
We have steadily grown over the three years, and currently are
home for over 1000 dialup customers. As of October 1999, we have
a dual-T1 connection to the Internet Backbone, and 202 dialup
ports spread throughout Delaware and Maryland. We wish to thank
all of our customers for their continued support, we couldn't
have done it without you.
Sincerely,
Cliff
